Richard C. Riggs focuses on family law and divorce cases, including child custody, parenting plans, spousal and child support, and property division. Because the dynamics surrounding family law cases are frequently stressful, Mr. Riggs believes that mediation, negotiation, and arbitration are the most effective methods for serving his clients' interests. As necessary, he aggressively advocates for clients at trial.
Mr. Riggs graduated from Willamette University College of Law after more than 20 years of service in the United States Navy. For military personnel or spouses seeking marriage dissolution, Mr. Riggs' Naval career provides unique insight and understanding of the circumstances that affect military families.
In addition to his military service and legal career, Mr. Riggs serves as the Vice Chairperson of Chemeketa Community College's Board of Education as well as serving on Chemeketa's Foundation Board. Mr. Riggs also serves as a board member for Salem's Community Radio Station, KMUZ, as a board member at large for West Salem High School Band Boosters, and is a certified Master Gardener.
During his time in law school, Mr. Riggs was assistant legal counsel for Willamette University, completed a legal internship for the Oregon Governor's Office and clerked for The Honorable Judge Susan Tripp. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Marion County Bar Association, a Marion County Teen Court volunteer, and a member the Law School Outreach Committee of the OSB's New Lawyer Division.
